Planned water supply maintenance from 19 to 24¬¬ August

The City’s Water and Sanitation Directorate will be doing planned work in the identified areas, which will result in water supply disruptions. This critical maintenance work is done on our water-supply infrastructure to benefit customers. Residents in the affected areas are encouraged to take note of the work that will take place and prepare accordingly.
Maintenance work, including pipe and valve installations, repairs and replacements
Residents are advised to store enough water in advance, as a precautionary measure. Water should ideally be stored in clean, sealed containers.
Planned maintenance work will result in water supply disruption to these areas:
Bloubergstrand
The Water and Sanitation Directorate will be installing valves and end caps on the water supply network in Sir David Baird Drive and all connecting roads in Bloubergstrand from 09:00 to 17:00 on Monday, 19 August 2024. During this time, the water supply to these roads will be shut off to allow the maintenance teams to safely carry out the installations and continue pipe replacement work in the area.
Residents in the affected area are advised to store water in clean, sealed containers in advance.
Additionally, the water supply network in Sir David Baird Drive and Otto Du Plessis Drive in Bloubergstrand will be shut off from 19:00 on Tuesday, 20 August 2024, until 04:30 on Wednesday, 21 August 2024. This will allow maintenance teams to safely connect to the existing 315mm diameter water supply pipeline. Residents are again advised to store water in clean, sealed containers ahead of the shutdown.
Oakdale
The water supply to the area below the N1, bounded by Carl Cronje Drive and Bill Bezuidenhout Avenue will be shut off from 09:00 until 18:00 on Tuesday, 20 August 2024. This will enable the maintenance team to safely make a connection to the existing main water supply pipeline on the corner of Raglan Road and Durban Road. As a result, the management of future water supply shut-offs in this area will be improved. Some consumers may experience no water and some low water pressure. Affected residents are kindly requested to store enough water in clean sealed containers in advance.
Goodwood
The Water and Sanitation Directorate will be shutting off the 1 220mm to 1 500mm diameter bulk water main in Frans Conradie Drive from 00:00 until 24:00 on Saturday, 24 August 2024. This will enable the maintenance team to safely repair a valve gearbox on the pipeline. Residents in the Goodwood area may experience lower than usual water pressure during this period. Affected residents in this area are also advised to store water in clean sealed containers in advance.
This work forms part of the Water and Sanitation Directorate's proactive infrastructure maintenance and upgrade programme, which ensures the future continuity of water supply by addressing the issue of unaccounted for water.

What residents need to know about larger-scale planned water supply disruptions: - Careful consideration has been given to the planning of this work to ensure it is being done at a time that is least disruptive to the water supply.
- All sites where water and sanitation repairs and upgrades are conducted are deemed to be construction sites and, as such, are off-limits to members of the public.
- Sometimes the maintenance work can be more complex than anticipated, which means the work could take longer.
- For a short period after the supply has been restored, the water may be discoloured or look milky. This is because of trapped air in the pipes. If left to stand in a glass, the appearance will become clear, like normal.
